Trail Overview

Historic Lolo Pass is a scenic drive that connects the Sandy River area to Lost Lake and Hood River. Spectacular valley views open up to reveal the western side of Mt. Hood. The driving surface is relatively smooth for the majority of the route, with the occasional pothole. The road will sometimes go to one lane, so stay prepared for oncoming traffic during busy weekends. For those looking for more challenging and technical terrain, there are multiple spurs to be explored.

It was a passible trail today using a 4 x 4 with clearance. We started in Hood River and worked our way to zigzag. Fun route with snow and scenic views. Our Jeep worked hard when breaking through apx 4 inches of crusted over snow but no issues if you have enough clearance to get through the large potholes.

Deeper snow than expected still. Lift required and possibly chains are helpful. Almost got stuck 30ft in.

Trail is open but fully snow covered would recommend a 4x4 vehicle with high clearance otherwise stay in the ruts and not too bad.

Trail is mostly paved. The dirt section has some potholes, and the paved section has some dips. Any car that has not been lowered past its stock height will be fine as long as the potholes / dips are not taken at excessive speeds.

Some debris, potholes, and road erosion from winter storms, but nothing a Subaru or taller couldn’t navigate.

going from north to south, almost made it all the way, but past the bridge where the trail bends back north, there was still a few inches of snow from some snowfall earlier in the week (before 5/12). May have melted since.
