Trail Overview
Hawk Eye is a 1.4-mile point-to-point trail that provides access to several other routes within the park. The trail is generally smooth and approachable, with some embedded rock mixed throughout the route. Hawk Eye offers an easier 4x4 route through a wooded section of MERA, making it a good connector trail between nearby routes. An Oregon State ATV operating permit is required for all vehicles within the Mount Emily Recreation Area. The trail is open year-round; however, management requests that trails not be used when mud sticks to tires.
Difficulty
Hawk Eye is generally an easier trail, with the primary challenges being occasional embedded rock and uneven terrain in a few spots. The route is approachable for most high-clearance 4x4 vehicles and serves as a smoother connector through the wooded sections of MERA. While obstacles are minor, riders and drivers should still expect a rougher surface than the main gravel roads within the park. Conditions become more difficult when wet, and users should avoid using the trail when mud sticks to tires.
