Gunsight Pass - FS 1170-600

This is a narrow, dirt-based forest road that is one vehicle wide with places to pass. This trail is closed to all motor vehicles December 1st through March 31st. The trail has several humps/whoops to navigate and runs along a ridge into a canyon. Some portions have newer and loose gravel, and appear to be patches of old washout sections. The trail has some overgrown vegetation, but is overall an easy trail suitable for any vehicle type. The trail travels through the canyon and now dead ends at an earth barrier at the base of the rock cliffs of one of the plateaus. There is an area that is a dispersed campsite where the trail ends, and along this trail you will have good views of Mt Jefferson, the high desert and plateaus, and down into the valley. The nearest services and supplies are in Madras, Oregon, approximately 45 minutes away.
