Trail Overview
Tucked away at the eastern terminus of FS 5800160, FS 5800030 is a brief out-and-back spur offering a highly rewarding payoff in the Mt. Hood National Forest. The short route pushes through a pocket of high-elevation evergreen timber before opening up dramatically into an old rock quarry. Operating as a single-lane dirt and gravel track, this path holds a level 1 difficulty rating. Folks venture down this quick offshoot specifically to claim the massive, private dispersed campsite located right in the quarry bowl. The site acts as a perfect elevated balcony, serving up sweeping, unobstructed views down into the forested valley and across the waters of Timothy Lake below. Since it dead-ends at the camp, traffic is practically nonexistent, making it an ideal spot to set up a secluded, scenic basecamp.
Difficulty
Earning an easy level 1 rating, this short spur provides a completely stress-free roll over a smooth, consolidated gravel base. The track stays virtually flat with no notable grade changes to manage. The corridor remains wide enough to avoid any bothersome brush or foliage scraping along the paint. Without any ruts, rocks, or technical obstacles in the way, the path guarantees excellent undercarriage clearance. Once at the end, the sprawling quarry floor offers a massive, flat footprint to easily pivot and head back out.
