Trail Overview

This rugged, rocky dirt road climbs two thousand feet up from the Owyhee River onto the rimrock above along the boundary of the Blue Canyon Wilderness. This is a scenic route that has numerous campsites along it. Bring extra fuel, water, and spare tires when traveling in this region. There is a high silica content in the dirt in this region. When dry, it's fine talc dust that gets everywhere and in everything. When wet, it becomes a slippery mess and dries hard on your vehicle like concrete. Be prepared to hike out if traveling in this area during the wet season.

We went down at night and came back up midday. The ruts have widened but still passable with 4wd and good tires. Pick your lines well. A couple small washouts but still passable with small or mid size trucks/SUV. Do not recommend if wet as the Owhyee mud is terrible and you could slide off the ledge. Some great camp spots down on the river bed and up higher on the overlooks. If you have dogs the burs are bad along the water edge. We chose to camp up higher to avoid this. But great views of red butte and the river. Careful camping parking in the big open field at bottom with white poles as small bush planes tend to land down here and use the road as a runway. Pretty cool to see though.

This trail does not have any camping spots. One spot that was okay for camping I was swarmed with mosquitoes. MILLIONS
