Trail Overview

Falls Dam trail is another easier trail in Uwharrie National Forest. It has views of the forest humps and a few optional challenges. For the most part, the trail is a shelf road in the hills and can be done in most off-roading vehicles. Some optional challenges can be taken to add a little variety to the drive.

This was one of 3 trails I traversed at Uwharrie during my short trip (Wolf Den, Lake View & Falls Dam). I thought was the most difficult of the 3 due to two shelf rock obstacles that didn't have a by-pass. Lots of flex and 3-wheel action on them both. Has a small wet clay area as well, lots of fun, even if I did smash a skid plate!

Thinking it would be easier than I had thought in a full size truck. It wasn’t. This was definitely more around a 4 or 5 rating. Lots of loose rocks and plenty of places I would’ve bottomed out if I didn’t have a lifted truck on 35’s. Started at Flatwoods TH and ended at Falls Damn TH.

Really fun trail & can be very slick when raining. The deep hole in the middle of the trail has been dug out a bit and 1 end of the pit is 5’ deep & steep to make it up. My wrangler on 33’s walked through pretty easily still.

The trail is very difficult now, likely approaching a 4-5. As others mentioned, a very deep mud hole is located about halfway through the trail. The entrance to this hole is a nearly vertical drop of approximately six feet. The mud is very slippery and packs into most tires. A narrow bypass is present to the inside of the hole, however, it is barely wide enough for a Wrangler.

Completed it in my lifted f150 but was fairly difficult. Most of the trail is dirt mounds which you have to pick the right line to avoid high centering on in a long wheel-base vehicle. A little more than halfway there is a big mud hole that most vehicles can’t get through and only has a very narrow bypass that took 3 of my friends spotting plus other person we met on the trail that is more experienced. We still had to try multiple paths and still ended up slightly hitting my door handle on a tree and had to fill in a big hole with rocks for me to use the bypass. It’s definitely doable but you need good spotters that know your vehicle if you’re in a truck.

Dry conditions, Good trail for our stock wrangler on 33’s. Only one area that is washed out rutted about 3’ deep that you could get stuck in, very narrow bypass around ruts.

Fairly easy in most sections with a moderately technical S bend at one point. Followed later on by section with a choice of a fairly difficult but short rock crawl section or a deep crater to get articulated in/mostly bypass. Has some other optional challenges and some random boulders along the trail to look out for.

Awesome trail. Some big rocks, may need a spotter if you don’t have a high clearance vehicle. Nothing to crazy. All around good fun trail!

This was my first ever trail and i loved it, terrified but loved it. Took my 2020 JL with stock tires, upgraded intake, upgraded charge pipe and upgraded exhaust. It was A little daunting approaching the first obstacle but the jeep handled it so well and it had plenty of power. I was cautiously optimistic the rest of the way. It rained a little that morning so there were some muddy spots but still passable, just pay close attention to the ground conditions if it rained. Bottomed out a few times but got the hang of it pretty quickly and followed some more experienced riders towards the end. Bigger tires would have made it a lot more pleasant with some of the clearances but i was pleased with the performance of stock height setup. Wouldn’t recommend anything above a three with a vehicle on a stock rim/tire package.

Did this trail with a Gladiator Overland on 33s and a 1.5in leveling kit. Trail is covered in dirt mounds you have to drive over. Before the leveling kit I would bottom out on them, but no issues with it. Relatively easy with only a couple spots you have to choose your path carefully. More consistently rocky than wolf den.
