Trail Overview

This route is a beautiful forest road that takes you into the Carson National Forest/Sangre De Christo Mountains. The beginning of the trail immediately kicks off with stunning, towering rock cliffs on either side as you follow the Costilla Creek up the canyon. For the first few miles, you'll pass the Rio Costilla Park where they have camping, hunting, and fishing. Campgrounds are paid per night. Once you enter the National Forest the camping becomes free. Bring a fly rod and a fishing license and enjoy some fishing out of the creek. Continuing up the canyon, you'll pass a few old cabin buildings and eventually come to a gated dead-end before Costilla Reservoir.
