Hot Rock Road

This is a dead-end road that terminates at a great overlook. This is a fairly easy drive that offers many secluded camping opportunities. 4wd is not needed, but it is recommended to have a little more ground clearance than an average car, especially near the end of the trail; it gets a little rocky. Enjoy the drive and take in some of the remnants of the Los Alamos experiments. Hot Rock Road gets its name from some geothermal testing that was done in the area. If you take time to wander the surrounding woods, they are filled with mysterious objects. Be on the lookout for elk; they are abundant along this road. If there has been recent significant rain, beware that there are a few depressions that will fill up and potentially make for a difficult day. The brush is encroaching on the road in places.
