Trail Overview

This route travels through the dense forest on the north side of Cerro Jarocito, which stands at over 9,800 feet, from FR 93 Resumidero Falls to FR 93 Red Mud Rumble. A few wildfires have scarred the forest, but it is coming back to life. There are a few spots with gorgeous views of Pedernal Peak. Pedernal Peak is prominent in paintings by the acclaimed artist, Georgia O'Keefe.

There are some water crossings from springs.

History

The Diego Fire burned over 3,600 acres in 2014. The Black Feather Fire burned over 2,500 acres in 2023.

I connected with this trail from Mud Rumble. It is a beautiful, simple trail. However, if it were more wet (had some puddles), coming in from the Mud Rumble side could be challenging.
