Trail Overview

This trail is one of the more accessible routes into the Pecos Mountains. Navigable by most cross-overs, this trail is a local favorite for camping and riding. The trail is mostly well-maintained gravel, with some sections of dirt that can be prone to rutting in the rainy season. Most of the road has tall pinon and other pine trees on either side, with small sections of aspen throughout. There is a gradual ascent to get over the entrance of the canyon, which then drops down into a series of meadows with large campsites. The road dead ends at a series of private homes in the back of the canyon. During summer months, expect high traffic with lots of campers as these sites are easy to get to from Albuquerque and Santa Fe.
