Trail Overview

Tulle Creek Road is a visually stunning out-and-back journey that carries explorers from the sweeping flats of Little Fish Lake Valley deep into the technical interior of the Monitor Range. The drive begins by skirting the rugged base of the mountains, then turns into the canyon to follow the winding path of Tulle Creek. As you ascend, the landscape transforms into a vibrant mountain sanctuary where lush, green meadows stand in stark contrast to the jagged rock formations and towering cliff faces that line the canyon walls. The driving experience is physically engaging and technical. Explorers will navigate technical rock gardens, moderate boulder fields, and several deep wash crossings that require high clearance. The trail is characterized by its narrow, unmaintained nature; the vegetation is dense, and paint damage (Arizona pinstriping) is a near-certainty for full-size vehicles. The canyon is a haven for raptors; keep a sharp eye on the thermals near the cliffs for hawks circling for prey. While several offshoot trails invite exploration and offer potential secluded campsites, be advised that the motorized route currently terminates at a massive downed tree. Without a chainsaw, this serves as the mandatory end of the road. This is active open-range territory. You will encounter livestock gates along the route; please ensure all gates are left exactly as you found them (closed means closed) to assist with local grazing management. Expect zero cell service for the duration of this canyon run. The massive rock walls create a total signal dead zone. Download offline maps before leaving the Tonopah or Highway 376 area.

Difficulty

Rated a 3 due to the combination of rocky boulder sections, technical wash transitions, and sustained off-camber tilts. Precise tire placement is necessary to avoid high-centering on the larger rocks in the creek bed. Severe paint scratches are guaranteed. The mountain mahogany, pinyon, and juniper branches are stiff and crowd the trail throughout the upper canyon.
