Trail Overview
What starts as a promising through-route is, in actuality, a secluded out-and-back journey into a quiet corner of the Toquima Range. The drive is engaging, carrying you through rolling hills and sagebrush basins where you are likely to flush Sage Grouse from the brush or see Pronghorn Antelope scanning the horizon from a distance. While older maps and initial appearances suggest this route serves as a primary connector to the broader Timber Hill system, the reality on the ground is quite different. The trail eventually veers off onto a separate two-track, as the original path has been significantly reclaimed by the desert. The route then leads into a natural wash where it becomes even further obscured by vegetation before disappearing completely. While the trail offers a profound sense of isolation, it provides no suitable camping clearings and is primarily recommended for those who enjoy "exploratory" driving and geological scouting.
Expect zero cell service for the duration of this trail. The high peaks of the Toquima Range create a total signal dead zone. Download offline maps before entering the mountain interior.
