Segura Spring

Segura Spring is a primitive out-and-back trail that carries explorers from the sweeping sagebrush fields of the valley floor deep into a dramatic, rock-walled canyon. This route is a true "off-the-beaten-path" experience, characterized by its isolation and the striking geological features that surround you. As you ascend out of the flats, the canyon walls close in, revealing a labyrinth of natural caves and intricate rock recesses tucked high into the cliffs. The trail follows a technical corridor through the canyon floor, where drivers will navigate significant boulder obstacles and steep, abrupt transitions into and out of natural washes. One of the most unique and potentially unnerving features of this trail is the sustained off-camber segments where the track hugs the hillside. In several spots, the earth feels soft and unstable, as if the trail might give way under the weight of a heavy vehicle. The canyon is a stronghold for various raptors. At the time of recording, a local hawk made its presence clearly known, signaling that you are a visitor in a very wild home. Mandatory Turnaround: The motorized route concludes at an ancient, weathered cattle gate. Beyond this gate, the trail is completely overgrown and reclaimed by nature; the forward path is no longer discernable for vehicles. This serves as your final turnaround point. Expect zero cell service for the duration of this trail. The vertical canyon walls create a total signal dead zone. Download offline maps before leaving the Tonopah or Highway 376 area.
