Trail Overview
Policemans' Wash is an exhilarating sand-wash route designed for offroaders seeking a dynamic, fast-paced desert ride with banked turns and beautiful desert scenery just north of Mesquite. This trail features a constantly shifting sandy bottom with high banked turns, meaning the track layout evolves continuously with the wind, rain, and vehicle traffic it experiences. Drivers can choose to run the route at higher speeds to test their machine's handling or cruise at a more leisurely pace to soak in the surrounding red rock and desert landscape. The route connects Oasis Boulevard on the south end to the area near the police academy to the north, offering a convenient and accessible escape into the Nevada backcountry.
The sandy terrain demands capable 4WD vehicles, SxSs, or dirt bikes, with lower tire pressures recommended to maintain traction in the deeper sand pockets. Rated at a technical difficulty of 3, the difficulty of the trail depends heavily on travel speed, as taking banked corners quickly requires quick reflexes and proper vehicle setup. Flash floods can rapidly alter the wash corridor, so checking the weather forecast before heading out is essential. The route is highly accessible year-round, though the desert heat makes fall, winter, and spring the most comfortable seasons for a trip.
