West Mountain Route

The West Mountain Route is a scenic, 32.8-mile point-to-point offroad trail connecting the desert near Mesquite, Nevada, to the rugged highlands of Utah. Beginning on the northern outskirts of Mesquite, the route climbs steadily toward West Mountain Pass, ascending from 1,902 feet to 5,476 feet. The drive offers views of desert valleys and distant peaks while skirting the edge of the Paiute Indian Reservation. The terrain consists of graded dirt, gravel, and sandy washes containing large, embedded rocks. As the trail climbs, it narrows into mountain segments featuring sharp, off-camber turns and shelf-road sections. A high-clearance 4WD vehicle is required. Due to extreme summer heat, spring, fall, and winter are the best seasons to visit.
