Trail Overview
This trail is a premier destination for those seeking a mix of high-consequence technical driving and awe-inspiring Great Basin history. The trail climbs steeply from the valley floor toward the massive Park Canyon ruin complex, a site that ranks among the most significant industrial archaeological finds in the Toiyabe Range. The ruins are characterized by massive stone walls, some nearly two feet thick, featuring intricate arches and sturdy masonry that have defied the elements for over a century. Scattered throughout the surrounding woods are stone fireplace spires and foundations, marking the footprints of a once-bustling mining community. The drive is as impactful as the destination. The trail is consistently rocky and rutted, but the true challenge lies in one extremely technical washout section that demands expert-level tire placement. The entry and exit angles are severe, and the risk of body damage or potential rollover is high if the wrong line is chosen. Navigating this segment requires a focused spotter and a capable vehicle. Once you conquer the climb, you are rewarded with outstanding panoramic views of the mountain range. Surprisingly, you may find a few bars of LTE service for much of the climb, but do not rely on it for safety. Download offline maps before leaving the Highway 376 corridor.

Difficulty
Rated a 4-5 due to the extreme nature of one primary washout. This section is prone to continued erosion and may change significantly after each storm. High clearance and excellent articulation are mandatory. A front or rear locker is highly beneficial in the technical sections to ensure consistent traction.
History
The ruins at Park Canyon are a testament to the immense labor of the 1860s silver boom. While most structures in Nevada were built of wood, the 2-foot-thick stone walls here suggest that the builders intended for this complex to be the "Silver Queen" of the southern Toiyabes. These arches and fireplaces once housed the families and miners who extracted fortune from the deep mountain veins. Additional historical details on this specific district are available in the Nevada Northwest Region Trail Guidebook, which can be found at local centers in Tonopah.
