Trail Overview

Kingsbury Stinger Trail is a fun all-arounder in the Tahoe Basin. It is one of the few legal trails for dirt bikes in the area. It can be ridden either direction and is strictly an out-and-back, as there is no way to loop it unless riding dual sport. Take note and be cautious, as this is frequently used as a downhill direction bike trail. Overall, the trail has a great mix of flowing bits and rocks/technical sections. The bottom starts with sandy and flowing bits, and as you work upward, the amount of technical sections increases. Nothing on the trail that is mandatory is too challenging and would put a beginner into the going into intermediate zone. There are alternate routes, however, if looking to push yourself a bit more, and those sections are primarily much steeper and almost entirely rock. They are fairly defined lines with some rock stacking in them, but are still quite challenging. Halfway up/down the trail is an incredible view you can stop at and enjoy. It is the edge of the lake (absolutely gorgeous color) and a glimpse of the town of South Lake Tahoe.

Difficulty

Loose sand which can be more challenging for some, tight turns into rocks which are hard to carry momentum through, and tougher bonus rock sections with regular rocks littered throughout the entire trail.

I was on my C-1 mountain bike. I started from the bottom of the trail which begins at many different locations. Mine was sewer plant Rd. (Seriously called that) From here you can catch the bottom of stinger and work your way up. I'm a local here and simply ride straight out of my house. There are numerous off shutes that you can take to the top which is Genoa Peak Rd. Which is where the top of Stinger starts. Today was a great day to ride it. Snow, mud, sand and lots of beautiful views.
