Trail Overview
This connector trail is absolutely not for the faint of heart and brings a serious "pucker factor." If the trail looks like a relentlessly long, loose, and steep rocky climb, that's exactly what it is. The route is defined by challenging climbs over loose shale, large boulders, and deep, rutted holes that require precise wheel placement. However, the reward for tackling this demanding terrain is immense. Once you conquer the obstacles and navigate the final steep, off-camber push at the top, the trail opens up to reveal truly outstanding, panoramic views across the high mountain ridges. It serves as an excellent, albeit aggressive, off-road connector trail for those looking to challenge their rig and take in some of the area's best vistas. There is absolutely zero cell phone service on this trail or at the summit.
Difficulty
This route earns a solid 5 rating due to a very long, steep, and loose rocky hill climb (or descent). The trail features deep dug-out holes that demand excellent vehicle articulation and steady momentum. Differential lockers and high-clearance 4x4 are strongly recommended. The final connection to the Gardner 2 trail involves a highly steep, off-camber climb that will definitely test your nerves.
