Lloyd Scenic Loop

Lloyd Scenic Loop offers an easy, family-friendly offroad drive through the scenic Bitterroot National Forest, showcasing beautifully thinned pine stands and frequent opportunities to spot local wildlife like elk. Stretching approximately 5.8 miles, this graded dirt route is ideal for beginners, standard high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles, and SxSs seeking a relaxed tour. The trail climbs from an elevation of 4,265 feet to a peak of 5,039 feet, offering mild elevation gains of roughly 689 feet. Navigating this trail is highly accessible, with a mostly flat, well-maintained surface that features numerous pullouts to easily accommodate oncoming traffic. There are no major obstacles or technical challenges, making it an excellent warm-up route or a casual afternoon drive. While the loop is highly accessible during the warmer months, winter conditions can render the route impassable due to a lack of snow plow maintenance, making late spring through autumn the prime visiting season. Hikers will find several intersecting trails that crisscross the hillside, offering opportunities to park at pullouts and explore the Bitterroot Mountains on foot. Although the area lacks designated dispersed camping sites directly along the loop, nearby Forest Service roads provide ample camping options. Visitors should remain alert for active wildlife herds moving through the trees and be prepared for changing weather conditions in this mountain terrain.
