Trail Overview
Pump Hollow (FS 3753) is a semi-maintained gravel forest service road within the Poplar Bluff Unit of Mark Twain National Forest. Starting from the eastbound lanes of US-60, the road heads south, onto the ridge that parallels the Carter and Butler county line, having mild elevation changes over reasonably fresh gravel consistent through the entire track. Along the way, the road has a few openings and offshoots to accommodate parking and enjoying the wildlife, and foliage, eventually the path ends at 3 point turnaround right before a gated admin road, as well as a small natural path for foot traffic, this location marks the end of the MVUM-Sanctioned road, users must turn around and head back out the way they came or continue on foot further south.
Difficulty
Pump Hollow is given a base rating of 1/10, having fresh gravel throughout, having soft spots where the gravel has not been well packed and feels loose and soupy. It is safe to expect all the gravel road complications, such as potholes, washboarding, and mounding of the gravel. Difficulty can increase in times of wet conditions, rainy seasons, and through a lack of maintenance or heavy use.
