Trail Overview
This short, well-maintained dirt road has a compacted surface that is easy to drive on. The road is narrow and feels more like a trail, so watch carefully for oncoming traffic. Avoid pulling into the grass because hidden tree stumps may cause vehicle damage. Under the conditions we encountered, the road was easily manageable in a two-wheel-drive vehicle, even during rain. At the end, a short walk leads to Devils Well, where a viewing platform overlooks an underground lake approximately 100 feet below the surface. The cavern measures about 400 feet long and 100 feet wide, contains several waterfalls, and reaches depths of approximately 80 to 100 feet. A separate, moderately strenuous 4.6-mile hike leads to Cave Spring, where water from Devils Well emerges into the Current River.
