Whiteface Truck and Round Lake

Whiteface Truck and Round Lake is a challenging 11.2-mile point-to-point offroad trail in northeastern Minnesota designed for experienced drivers in four-wheel-drive vehicles and SxSs seeking a rugged test of capability and recovery skills. Rating a solid 7 out of 10 on the technical scale, this route demands high clearance, and a winch is highly recommended due to the extremely demanding conditions. Both ends of the trail begin deceptively with easy gravel forestry roads that quickly transition into minimum-maintenance roads before plunging into unmaintained wilderness terrain. The central segment of the trail presents the most significant obstacles, including a notorious washout near a beaver pond and a deep, steep ravine that will test both your vehicle’s articulation and your driving precision. To make the most of this adventurous run, traveling from east to west is recommended, allowing you to tackle the steepest ravine and deepest water crossings first before transitioning to the mud pits that gradually ease as you head west. If attempting the route from west to east and finding the ravine impassable, you will be forced to backtrack and detour via Bobcat Creek Trail to Long Lake Road. Because of the varying depths of water, deep ruts, and slick mud, traveling with a group is essential, and solo runs are strongly discouraged. The trail is open seasonally but can become nearly impassable during spring thaws or periods of heavy saturation, making proper preparation and choosing your lines carefully crucial for a successful overland journey.
