Trail Overview
Trail 5 is rugged and has all of the rocks and roots that are characteristic of the Alger Grade system. There are a number of splits in the trail that allow riders to choose the easier or harder features. Some of the optional hard features on this trail are genuinely dangerous, with one of them being a very steep 15-foot boulder drop. There is a new loop in the very southeastern part of the trail that is challenging. You can skip that section if you wish, using the original trail route, but it can be easy to miss the turn. Expect lots of off-camber sections, tall rocks to get up, and steep hills in the mix.
Difficulty
The difficulty of this trail depends on which lines and routes you choose. If you stick to the old loop and don't take any of the optional hard lines, this trail is a 4. If you take none of the optional hard lines but ride the new southeastern loop, this trail is a 5. If you take all the optional hard lines plus the southeastern loop, this trail is a 7-8 because of the huge rock drop. The difficulty of all options increases if the trail/rocks are wet.
