Trail Overview

Trail 2 is one of the most technical trails in the Alger Grade system. It begins fairly smoothly before the rocks and roots increase in number, and the inclines get steeper. The fun begins once you reach the main granite ridge line. The trail takes you across the ridge before descending down into a series of smaller log hops and rock gardens. After that is a series of boulder gardens with a tricky step up that has a tree in the middle of it. Once you've cleared those, you'll ride alongside the vertical granite wall before meeting up with the western finger, which is similar in difficulty to the beginning of the trail. There are a couple of optional hard lines on this trail if you decide it isn't already challenging enough.

Difficulty

The most challenging part of Trail 2 is the lower boulder garden section. Riders will have to navigate 1-2 foot tall rocks with a short but steep step up that has a tree in the middle. The main difficulty here is the fatigue factor. Getting bogged down in one of the rock gardens and having to drag your bike will rob your energy for the next section. There are also a couple of optional hard lines on the lower section that feature a 40-degree slope and tall ledges going up the rock face. This trail is much more difficult when it's wet because the rocks and roots can get very slick.
