Trail Overview

This gravel trail, accessible from Trail 120, offers public access to the St. Louis River, featuring a footpath suitable for canoes or kayaks, as well as a boat launch. The boat launch is situated in a large turnaround area near the end of the trail, which may provide a suitable spot for dispersed camping; however, no facilities are available. The route passes through a birch forest that shows signs of a significant fire, likely from the previous season. The drive is scenic, but it also demonstrates the impact of recent disturbances. A few side trails branch off the main route; one leads to a private residence while the others are narrow, overgrown, and better suited for side-by-sides or other small off-road vehicles. Logging activity is evident at the beginning and again midway along the trail, so drivers should remain alert for trucks or equipment. While there are no formal campgrounds along the trail, dispersed camping is generally permitted in the Superior National Forest, outside the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. The trail does not offer any services, such as toilets, potable water, or trash disposal, and cell reception may be poor or nonexistent. Campers should follow Leave No Trace principles and check with local authorities for the most up-to-date information on camping regulations.
