Trail Overview

Westman Dam Road is a multi-use vehicle trail that runs along the southwest side of the Escanaba Forest Management Unit Land. This trail is moderately maintained with a sand base and runs from its intersection with FR 34613 and 34614 to its intersection with Road 360. The trail can be run in either direction with difficulty, and features that will remain the same. The largest difference is that as the trail navigates north, the sand increases in silt content, as well as in how loose it is. It also begins to make a considerable amount more dust. The sand located at the southern end of the trail is much firmer and denser. This allows for better traction, as well as a reduction in dust. The scenery around the trail is dominated by a mix of trees, but mainly maturing pines. Trail undergrowth is limited but present thanks to the sandy soil. The trail does not have any low spots that will hold water for any meaningful amount of time. The trail is wide enough in most cases for two vehicles to pass each other at moderate speeds. Only the widest vehicles will need to allow more room for oncoming traffic to pass. Cell service in this area begins to get spotty, and traveling with downloaded maps is advised if unfamiliar with the area.
