Trail Overview
West Buchanan-Pierce Trail is a bidirectional trail within the Manistee National Forest. Located off East Buchanan Road to the north and East Pierce Road to the south, this trail is easily accessible. Most of the trail is a combination of dirt and sand. Starting on the south side of this route, you'll twist and turn as the trail becomes more sandy and rutted. As you continue, you'll be greeted by incredible views of a section of the forest with towering red pine trees. This route seems like a roller coaster with the elevation changes along the way. Like most Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause downed trees, washouts, & mud holes. Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle with limited places to pass. The northern end of this trail finishes at East Buchanan Road. As always, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of our public lands so future generations can have access to these trails! This is not a difficult trail at all, but still contains lots a lot of beauty and gives access to other great trails nearby.
