History
The western terminus lies near the historic ghost town of Deward. Founded in 1901 around David Ward's massive sawmill, Deward was a premier lumbering town that produced millions of board feet of white pine. The mill closed in 1912 after the timber was exhausted, leading to the rapid abandonment of the town.
