Trail Overview
Sand Lake Motorcycle Trail is a nice skills test for riders in Michigan's lower peninsula. This trail has a little bit of everything. Sand, rocks, roots, hill climbs, ruts, and more. Although most riders could eventually get through this trail, it could be considered very difficult for learning riders. Some of the most significant barriers are the hill climbs. There are two hill climbs on this trail that have washed out to a critical level. The rut/washout, at the time of this posting, is deep enough that ground level is above the rider's head when riding through. There are some other options around these washed-out hill climbs, but the general terrain is not conducive to an "easier" way. There are just different types of obstacles. A fast lap on this 25-mile trail would be 1.5 hours. Most riders will plan on 2-3 hours for this trail.
Difficulty
This trail is not rated for one specific gatekeeper obstacle. But rather for the constant challenge of mud, sand, rocks, roots, washouts, and loose sand hill climbs.
