Trail Overview
FS 9658 is a bidirectional trail within the Manistee National Forest. Located off East Fox Road & County Road, this trail is easily accessible. Most of the trail is a combination of dirt, leaves, and sand. Starting on the south side of this route, the forest is more dense, with a lot of overgrowth and low-hanging trees. Shortly after, you'll twist and turn as the trail becomes more sandy and rutted. This is where you'll be greeted by an awe-inspiring section of towering red pine trees. It's incredible to see such amazing and beautiful nature in our national forests. As you continue traversing, the trail narrows again with more overgrowth before the finish. Like most Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause downed trees, washouts, & mud holes. Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle with limited places to pass. The northern end of this trail finishes at County Road, where the trail ends with a lot of really soft and loose sand. As always, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of our public lands so future generations can have access to these trails! This is not a difficult trail at all, but still contains lots of fun with plenty of scenic views. Regardless of the conditions, this is a fantastic through trail!
