Trail Overview

FS 7540 is a great trail within the Manistee National Forest. Located east of the town of Yuma and south of the town of Mesick, this trail is easily accessible. Starting from the northern end, you'll start out in a gorgeous portion of the forest where the trail twists and turns. Shortly into the trail, there's a spur that offers dispersed camping in a large opening with a fire pit. If you plan on utilizing this spot that's right off the trail, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY, and seek more information at the local Department of Natural Resources Office/Ranger Station prior to camping here. We want future generations to be able to enjoy these public spaces. Shortly after the spur, you'll zip back into the thick forest. Like most of Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause unfavorable conditions on the trail, including downed trees, mud holes, and washouts. Come Prepared! Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle with limited places to pass. There are several parts of this trail that contain sandy washes and muddy ruts. This is not a difficult trail at all, but it contains a lot of fun and beauty, and gives access to other great trails nearby. The south end of the trail finishes at the intersection of FS 9090/5228 & FS 7544. As always, again, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of our public lands so future generations can have access to these trails!
