Trail Overview

FS 7538/7534 is an incredible bidirectional trail within the Manistee National Forest. Located southeast of the town of Yuma and south of the town of Mesick, this trail is easily accessible. Most of the trail is a combination of dirt and sand, with some small rocks mixed in here and there, as well as some mud. Starting out on the west end, you'll begin right by the original site of the first Yuma school, which was there from 1879-1893. Past here, you'll continue in a dense portion of the forest as you twist and turn. This route does have a few sandy/muddy washouts, but nothing major. These are fun to flex out your suspension. Like most of Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause downed trees, washouts, & mud holes. Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle with limited places to pass. As always, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of our public lands so future generations can have access to these trails! This is not a difficult trail, but it is a lot of fun with some history behind it. Be sure to check out some of the other nearby trails when you're finished with this route. Regardless of the length or conditions, this is an awesome trail everyone should experience!
