Trail Overview

FS 5738 is an awesome bidirectional trail within the Manistee National Forest. Located east of the town of Yuma and south of the town of Mesick, this trail is easily accessible. Most of the trail is a combination of dirt and sand, with some small rocks mixed in here and there, as well as some mud. Starting out on the south end, you'll begin in a dense portion of the forest with a gravel/dirt surface. As you continue, the trail climbs in elevation till the end. Like most Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause downed trees, washouts, & mud holes. Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle with limited places to pass. As always, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of our public lands so future generations can have access to these trails! 0.4 miles in, you'll come across a very off-camber sandy/muddy washout that gives this trail its difficulty rating. Although this trail has this off-camber sandy wash section, the remainder is not difficult. The trail finishes at a T with FS 7530. Be sure to continue your adventure and check out some of the other nearby trails when you're finished with this route. Regardless of the length or conditions, this is an amazing trail everyone should experience!
