Trail Overview

FS 5557 is a chill and scenic trail within the Manistee National Forest. Located right off River Road, this trail is easily accessible. This trail surface consists mostly of a sand/dirt/gravel combination with some washboard ruts and potholes along the track. This route crosses over a small section of property owned by the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians. As you continue, the route weaves through a gorgeous section of towering pine trees, and a small creek juts next to the trail towards the end. The end of the trail finishes at a large parking area with vault toilets and a large boat ramp, all on the Rainbow Bend of the mighty Manistee River. This large parking area has a Day Use Fee. Please read the information board if you plan to stay and utilize this space at the end of the trail. Also keep your eyes open for wildlife on your way down the trail! This trail will surely keep you entertained. Like most Michigan off-road trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause unfavorable conditions on the trail, including downed trees, mud holes, and washouts. Come Prepared! This trail is wide enough for 2, but sometimes there's limited space to pass, as well as limited visibility on some of the corners. This is not a difficult trail, but it contains a lot of beauty and leads to an amazing outdoor recreation site. Regardless of the conditions or length of this trail, it's an awesome route to check out!
