Trail Overview

FS 8336 is an easy, bidirectional two-track in Michigan's Manistee National Forest that offers a quiet drive through a densely wooded section of the forest. Accessed from North Kettle Hole Road, the trail follows a dirt surface often covered with fallen leaves, creating a classic northern Michigan forest experience. The route is relatively narrow in places, with overhanging tree limbs and a canopy that adds to its secluded feel. A spacious pullout along the trail provides a convenient place to stop, take a break, or enjoy dispersed camping where permitted. While the trail is not technically challenging, weather can significantly affect conditions. Heavy rain may leave muddy sections, standing water, washouts, or downed trees, so checking conditions before your trip and carrying basic recovery gear is recommended. Portions of the route also border private property, so remain on the designated trail and respect adjacent landowners. Suitable for most high-clearance vehicles in normal conditions, FS 8336 also provides convenient access to nearby hiking, hunting, and additional recreation opportunities throughout Manistee National Forest.
