Trail Overview
Fit East is one of several 65 in. and under ORV routes located within the Escanaba Forest Management Unit. This trail begins at its intersection with Fir - 9995330 (Forest Island ORV Trailhead) and navigates to its endpoint at its intersection with Forest Road 13040 and Forest Road 14570. This was originally designed and open to 50" and under machines but has recently been made into a 65" and under trail. This results in a very narrow trail and has several tight technical sections. The trail is the most challenging when ridden from north to south, but south to north also offers similar challenges. The trail navigates through a tight cedar and pine grove alongside a portion of the Bark River. Terrain on this section of trail is tame compared to other sections. Once the trail navigates away from the river valley, it begins to become technical. Several narrow bridge crossings will just fit one 65" or under SxS on it. There are also several low areas which will typically collect water and/or be mud holes except in very dry years. There are several short, steep, and eroded sandy hill climbs across this trail, as well as several similar descents. This entire trail is only wide enough for one SxS to fit; pulling over or reversing will be required to allow other vehicles to pass. There are also several short sections of this trail that navigate onto multi-use forest roads. Cell service in this area is slow but available. Traveling with downloaded maps is not needed but does help when unfamiliar with the area.
Difficulty
This trail can easily be completed by any modern SxS, ATV, or Dirt Bike. There are several short, steep hill climbs which will typically have some amount of erosion. This can also expose roots of nearby trees, creating ledges that would need to be climbed. There are several low spots in the trail which will typically be water spots or mud holes. The vast majority of this trail is very narrow, and pulling over and/or reversing will be required to allow vehicles to pass. Undergrowth on this trail is very limited, which results in a trail that has pretty good sight lines for as narrow as it is.
