Trail Overview
Fir - Forest Road 13040 is a multi-use Forest Road which navigates from its intersection with Forest Road 14570 to where the trail dead-ends at an un-gated ORV trailhead. There are several short spur trails which navigate off this trail to provide additional areas to explore. This trail remains the same difficulty when traveled in either direction. The trail is just over one vehicle wide for most of its length, with a couple of areas squeezing down to a tight two-track. Sight lines in these areas are very poor, and oncoming views of the trail are minimal. The trail is composed of a sand/ dirt surface. As the trail progresses further south, there also begins to be an increase in the amount of small to medium-sized rocks located on the trail. The surrounding scenery is made up of mature pine and cedar trees, with some hardwoods mixed throughout. There is a good amount of undergrowth present around this trail that can obstruct sight lines. Similar to most other ORV trails in this area, the trail is mostly flat, with only subtle elevation changes located throughout. Cell service in this area is very spotty and becomes even more spotty as the trail navigates further south. Traveling with downloaded maps is advised.
Difficulty
This trail's hardest obstacles are the obstructed sight lines and the narrowness of the trail on the southern half. Beyond that, this trail can be navigated by any vehicle with a basic 4x4 or AWD system. The southern half of the trail has some small to medium-sized rocks that begin to become present throughout the trail.
