Trail Overview

2nd Creek Trail is an out-and-back trail within the Traverse City Forest Management Unit. Located off Thompsonville Road, this trail is easily accessible. Most of the trail is a combination of dirt and sand with some gravel sections and overgrowth mixed in here and there. Starting out, the trail is a classic Michigan two-track with gorgeous views of pine trees in the forest and right alongside the trail. As you continue, the trail transitions from a dirt/sand two-track to more of a dirt track with overgrowing grass spanning the middle surface and a canopy of trees encompassing the trail all around. There is one larger mud/water hole to take note of, so just be cautious as you come across that. Like most of Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause downed trees, washouts, & mud holes. Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle, with limited places to pass. The end of this trail finishes with a turnaround loop, making it easy to navigate back down the trail you just came down. As always, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of our public lands so future generations can have access to these trails. This is not a difficult trail at all, but it still contains lots of fun with plenty of scenic views. Regardless of the length or conditions, this is a wonderful trail for everyone.
