Mertens Avenue

Named for the Merten family who owned orchards in this region during the late 19th and early 20th century, the majority of Mertens Avenue is a rough but generally well-maintained gravel road. The road surface is primarily rough rock in almost a cobblestone orientation, which can give a washboard-like feel at times. The track has an elevation change of over 600 feet, which is mostly gradual from end to end with a few tight turns and short sections with steeper grades. There are several areas prone to minor ruts and washouts. Passing carefully is possible at all but a few points along the route. Towards the north end of the track is Outdoor Club Road, the only spur trail off of Mertens Avenue.
