Trail Overview

Fish Fossil is another popular creek bed style trail, with the most difficult part being at the exit of the trail. Most of the trail is rocky creek bed with small to medium-sized rocks and ledges that winds up the creek with slight elevation change. There was a popular wedge climb in the middle of the trail, but it has unfortunately become a victim of a mini landslide from the hill next to it. The challenge of this trail is the exit, which is a steep climb out that begins with a steep and off-camber rock ledge that transitions into a rutted-out mud climb to the top. A large boulder has made its way into the middle of the base of the exit, which makes it more challenging to get a proper line up. The rock boulder field-looking climb that parallels the exit is NOT an alternative exit.

Difficulty

Most of the trail is lightly challenging with small rocks and ledges to climb on your way to the exit. The exit can be a little tricky to get properly lined up on now, with the addition of a large boulder at the base of the exit. It is usually always wet and will usually require a bit of wheel speed and commitment to get past the rock section. There is potential for a flop if you take the wrong line. There is no bypass for the exit, but there is room to maneuver and turn around if need be.
