Trail Overview

This trail will take you through the heart of western Kansas chalk country. The trail winds along sandy gravel roads, with epic views of the Kansas Prairie and unique geological formations. You may see plenty of wildlife like whitetail deer, turkey, and pronghorn. Along this trail, you will pass by Castle Rock, Monument Rocks, Little Jerusalem Badlands State Park, the Little Pyramids, and, of course, the Historic Lake Scott State Park. Don't forget to leave time to hike around at these different locations. Take your time exploring these iconic formations, where you may even see some evidence of prehistoric fossils from the Cretaceous period. Do keep in mind the weather when traveling;heavy rains may affect roads and make them muddy or have some standing water.

County road dusty looks like it will rut when wet however. Don’t forget Life on the rocks aka little Jerusalem state park off the north part of this trail. Very short side trip worth it . Watch for snakes on trail including Diamond Backs.
