Trail Overview

This scenic river bottom route offers an engaging sand-driving experience for offroaders, SxS drivers, and dirt bike riders looking to explore the historic Arkansas River corridor just west of Dodge City. Spanning from the Coronado Bridge at 117 Road to the western edge of the city, the trail consists primarily of thick river sand that will test traction and require airing down tires for optimal performance. While the eastern section of the run weaves through tight, narrow stands of trees and dense brush that can challenge wider vehicles, a parallel northern path provides a wider, clearer alternative to bypass the tight foliage. As travelers progress toward the eastern terminus near Dodge City, the flat riverbed transitions into exciting sand hills and dunes that provide fun climbs and play areas for off-highway vehicles. Four-wheel-drive vehicles, side-by-sides, and off-highway motorcycles will find the terrain highly enjoyable, though low-clearance vehicles should avoid the deep sand to prevent getting stuck. This route is typically best run during dry seasons when water levels in the Arkansas River are low or non-existent, ensuring the sandy riverbed is fully accessible and dry enough to navigate safely.

The description of the trail is fairly acerate. However, the highlighted trail on the map is not the trail described. The trail as described travels west of 117 Rd not east. The paths east have been turned into a dumping ground for every idiot that can’t be bothered to drive to the landfill, including dead livestock.
