Trail Overview
The north end of Quartz View starts out with a bridge crossing over the Steep Creek, and then it immediately starts climbing up a series of 10+ tight and moderately technical switchbacks. A few of the switchbacks have dug out roots across the trail on the inside corner, making them more difficult. They come up quick and are steep, so keep your momentum up when riding them in the uphill direction (north to south). It mellows out after about a mile, but keeps gradually climbing as it meanders through the forest, gaining about 1100 feet elevation in the first 2.5 miles. Then it descends for the second half of the trail, on a semi-steep grade, with several more tight switchbacks and a few exposed narrow sections on the hillsides. It gets steeper as it descends down to the intersection with Pee Wee. There is a scenic overlook on the south end just a few hundred yards up from the intersection with Pee Wee, with a picnic table, overlooking the rural valley below.
Difficulty
This is a moderate single track due to several tight and technical switchbacks that are steep, exposed, and frequently with embedded or dug-out roots on the inside corners. The trail can be narrow, steep, and exposed in spots.
