Trail Overview
The John Wayne A Spur is a short ATV trail that connects John Wayne back to Pee Wee over 1 mile. It gains about 400 feet in elevation from south to north, with a few steep spots, but is generally very easy and gradual. The trail stays on a wide path, appropriate for 50-inch vehicles, on smooth dirt next to tall Douglas firs and brambles, with minor embedded roots in the ground. Most of the trail rides on a sun-exposed ridgeline along the hillside, making it drier and dustier. It's very scenic, overlooking the rural valley below and Priest River. This trail has mild loose rock and exposed rock layers in spots, but overall is just an easy connector trail with no major obstacles. It is well maintained and easy to navigate, with signs at the intersections and no logs. This is a beginner-friendly trail that ATV riders can check out along with John Wayne Loop and Pee Wee, which are of similar easy difficulty.

This is rated easy as it has no major obstacles and is mostly smooth dirt topped with minor loose rocks. Some sections will feel narrow and exposed for ATV riders; however, it is family-friendly and ideal for less experienced riders.
