Trail Overview

Tom Coward Gap is a narrow one-lane trail that runs through Chattahoochee National Forest. This is a short but fun trail with some obstacles that can make it challenging. The surface is natural with mud holes that are solid bottom up to 12 inches deep. There are a few small water crossings that are less than 6 inches deep, but could increase with heavy rains. There are some off-camber sections with ruts up to 18 inches. Some banks had me at 22 degrees roll. I was able to do most of it in 2WD with a 3-inch lift and 37s, but I had to put it in 4WD for some of the rock obstacles. This trail runs through a private 5-acre parcel of land, but it is a right-of-way passage, so please be respectful and stay on the trail through this section. There is a fairly large creekside campsite towards the beginning of the trail. Cell service is nonexistent, so please plan accordingly.

Excellent trail if someone wants to try out rocks and enjoys crossing water. There’s an obstacle about halfway through that almost requires a spotter; other than that it’s a great time.

Nice ride. A little bumpy, nothing too extreme at all. Ran it in 4wd just to avoid some tire spinning. Definitely high clearance. 4wd-L for downhill return to save brakes. Not a pinstriper so that's nice.
