Trail Overview
Timpson Creek trail is a dirt & gravel road that runs beside, well... Timpson Creek, which is very large for a creek and has a couple of incredible dispersed campsites right beside it. There are a lot of really cool views of the creek in various spots along the way. The trail itself is a shelf road with Timpson Creek down below most of the way, and heads up to the end between two mountains, which would make another nice campsite, even if not beside the creek. I believe any 4x4 or 2WD truck/car with any decent amount of ground clearance should be able to make it to the top. The only real obstacles are mud holes, with a few that can be up to 12 inches deep and a couple that are easily 12 inches deep. The trail ends and is marked with a Forest Service yellow CLOSED sign. In case that sign was not enough to prevent you from going further, if you continue walking it you'll come to an extremely steep off-camber hill that should obviously not be descended. Just stop and enjoy the gap between the mountains. There is plenty of space for several, at least 4 to 5, vehicles to turn around or camp here as well.

Difficulty
Generally, most of the trail is dirt with some gravel in spots. While no real water crossings, there are a couple of springs that will generate the tiniest of creeks as they head down to Timpson Creek on the other side of the shelf road. The mud holes are plentiful and up to 12 inches, with a couple right at that depth, and that is driving the difficulty rating. Generally is just a single vehicle width, with some of the switchbacks available for passing. WARNING: The trail ends at a yellow CLOSED sign posted by the Forest Service. Beyond that sign is a steep hill that would be an off-camber descent and would be dangerous, and the likely reason the Forest Service has had to post the CLOSED sign.
