Trail Overview

Trail FS-630C, also known as Lacky Knob, offers beautiful views of wooded hollows that winds along deep ravines in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains ecoregion. The trail is a mix of dirt, embedded stone, and some small areas of slick rock. The trail is single lane with frequent opportunities to pass other vehicles you may encounter. Plan for 1.25 hrs for a leisurely out-and-back trip. Access to FS-630C requires a legally tagged and registered vehicle. If planning to explore the Sumac Creek Trail at the end, you'll need extra time. Check with the Conasauga Ranger District for dispersed camping if you plan to stay the night. Conasauga Ranger District 706-695-6736. This area is closed during winter months and usually reopens the first week of March.

Difficulty

May require the use of 4WD after any amount of rainfall due to slippery inclines. The trail is generally a single lane but there are frequent areas to pass oncoming vehicles.

History

The Cohutta Wilderness is the largest wilderness area east of the Mississippi and is located in Goergia and partially in Tennessee. The Forestry Service has many managed wild life food plots scattered throughout the wilderness that draw in wild-life. Expect to see plenty deer and wild fowl in the area.
