Trail Overview

The Lake Conasauga trail system is located in the Cohutta Wilderness area of the Chattahoochee National Forest. Plan to spend the better part of your daily adventure here and enjoy the peaceful serenity of this mountain lake. Most legally tagged full-sized vehicles can easily be accessed from the FS-17 West Cowpen Rd main trail. Enter via FS-68, and the Lake Conasauga Recreation Area sign will greet you. At this point, continuing straight leads to FS-68A (day-use area), FS-68C (Lake Conasauga View), and FS-49 (gateway to more trails). A right will take you to FS-68D (Boat Ramp and Camping).

Difficulty

This trail system is easily accessible by legally tagged full-size vehicles. Vehicles with boat trailers should use FS-68D only due to limited areas to turn around with a boat trailer in tow.

History

Lake Conasauga is a man-made lake and is also the highest lake in Georgia at 3,150 feet above sea level. The Cohutta Wilderness is the largest wilderness area east of the Mississippi and is located in Goergia and partially in Tennessee.
