Trail Overview

Hunting Road trail parallels the middle section of Fishing Road trail for just over two miles and is much more primitive and less traveled than Fishing Road trail. The trail is barely one vehicle wide, with few places for two vehicles to pass. Trail pinstripes are guaranteed as the scrub and tree branches extend well into the trail. The base is mostly packed sand that gets soft in several areas, presenting a mild challenge, especially to two-wheel drive vehicles. If you are traveling northbound on Hunting Road, you will encounter a split in the trail where you should keep right. The trails to the left end in a harvested pine area. Southern pine and oak scrub are the predominant trees along the trail, with some larger oaks with Spanish Moss gently flowing in the breezes. Unfortunately, Hunting Road does not bypass any of the water crossings, so you can't trade pinstripes for high water. Hunting Road is entirely within the Townsend WMA, and a valid Georgia Hunting or Fishing license is required to access the trail.
