Trail Overview

Cashes Valley Road is a hidden gem, perfect for an out-and-back adventure in the Chattahoochee National Forest, spanning Fannin and Gilmer Counties in Georgia. This picturesque trail features several water crossings, approximately a foot deep under dry conditions. However, be prepared for these crossings to be significantly higher and more challenging after rainfall. The trail runs alongside several residential properties, so please be courteous to the residents and limit the number of vehicles on the trail to three, as there is no adequate turnaround space at the end. While there are a few stopping areas along the route, they are generally only large enough to accommodate a single vehicle. The trail itself is narrow, designed for one vehicle width. The completion time mentioned refers to the total duration for the round trip, starting and ending at Cashes Valley Road.

Would be a car grade trail if not for 3 water crossings. Easy drive in 2 wheel. Very pleasant but tight for bidirection. Yes it’s closed before the cemetery (see picture). Just package it with other trails and don’t bring a large group.

Very easy and beautiful area. We did come across a sign stating the trail ahead was close so I couldn’t get to the cemetery. Water crossings were nice and not difficult. Super fun.

Great and easy trail. The water crossing were no trouble. We had a work truck on the trail carrying water drainage pipe. We pulled over to let then go by as we were in no hurry. We came across road closure sign shortly passed the Gate Ahead sign towards the end. We had to turn around , so didn't make it to the end turn around. Didn't get to see the dead bear hanging in the tree this time. On the way out passed two side by sides ,also a large dump truck. Those all were closer to the start on the trail when we were heading out. Ran in 4Lo mostly with manual selection, 3rd and 4th gear but 2cd going through the water crossing.

One of the more popular and busy routes in the area. Today we noticed the trail was stating to collapse into the creek close to the turnaround at the end. I'd recommend turning around at the corral / clearing area with the pavilions before the end. You are not missing much if you do. The trail is a 2/10 in our opinion in difficulty but be careful of others.

First you have navigate several small pretty long winding narrow dirt roads to what looks like a dead end, then you can make the first crossing, then it’s just a super simple dirt trail, (narrow at times) with no obstacles. All of the water crossings are very simple thanks to the great maintenance of the road and the only real challenge is varying water levels depending on recent rain in the area. However, there are several pull offs where you can hang out by the river for a bit.

Awesome trail for beginners like me. Three creek crossings and able to navigate with no issues in a stock off road premium 4Runner. I engaged 4L and tested out CC and MTS systems just for fun. All in all a great trail!

Great out and back trail that takes approximately 1 hour to complete. You’ll encounter 3 large water crossings in addition to a few smaller ones. Private land parallels both sides, so stay on trail and take care of it. Single wide a majority of the way, so keep mental note of the limited passing points. 10/10, one of the best trails in Northern Georgia.
